I particularly enjoyed playing a solo “song request” gig at Grayswood Village Club last week. A lovely audience – lots of happy faces.

Wishing Tracy and Chop every success tonight (Thursday) at their new venue the Square Brewery, Petersfield for their weekly open mic and also the start of a monthly open mic at The Shed, Bordon.

This Saturday, April 20 is Record Store Day 2024. Richard Stone has been in touch to tell me that his shop, 101 Collectors’ Records, in West Street, Farnham will have more than 400 exclusive record releases. As ever they are expecting a big turnout out so get there early – I have seen long queues in previous years! They open at 8am and close at 5.30pm. Events will include a raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK, giveaways and more.

Big queues are expected outside the bright yellow 101 Collectors' Records shop in West Street, Farnham on Record Store Day 2024

Lunchtime jazz at the Farnham Maltings is on Thursday, April 25. The guest joining the house band is alto saxophonist Sam Bullard. A graduate of the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Sam has performed with ensembles such as the BBC Big Band, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, and worked in West End theatre orchestras for Jersey Boys, Singin' in the Rain, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Funny Girl, Dreamgirls, Matilda, Motown, Strictly Ballroom , 42nd Street, Bat out of Hell, 9 to 5, and Cabaret.

He has also backed artists such as Cliff Richard, Tim Minchin and Jamie Cullum. He has played prestigious jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Doors open at 12.30pm, and the concert starts at 1pm. Tickets are £10 on the door.

You may remember I posted about the awful break-in and vandalism at the Fiery Bird venue in Woking. They do a great job of providing entertainment and live music and are determined to get back on their feet. A way of helping is supporting a fundraising gig which is happening on Saturday, April 27. The Monday Music Club will be playing a varied set at Lancaster Hall in Send near Woking. Tickets are £5 and £10 with all money raised going to the Fiery Bird.

Brian Player’s Folk, Roots and Acoustic music show is every Tuesday evening. Guests this week are Lynne Whiteland and Amy Goddard. It’s on at 8pm on Wey Valley radio and is on 101.1FM or online at www.weyvalley.uk

Email me at [email protected] to be included here in support of local live music in the Herald area, which includes Farnham, Alton, Haslemere, Bordon, Liphook, Petersfield, Woking and surrounding areas. Also include a possible photo for inclusion.
