A Petersfield woman is running the London Marathon this Sunday, April 21 in memory of her mum.

Anna Rainbow lost her mum to a rare form of dementia, corticobasal degeneration (BCD), in August 2022 and is running to raise awareness of the brain condition.

She was inspired by Raynor Winn, whose book The Salt Path charts her husband Moth’s struggles with CBD.

Raynor and Moth’s London Marathon walk for PSPA in 2023 is what made Anna take on the challenge of running the marathon.

Anna said: “I always said I would never run a marathon. But after my mum’s death in 2022, I was keen to do something to raise awareness of CBD and support the charity PSPA too.

“We’d never heard of CBD before mum’s diagnosis and PSPA was so helpful in guiding us through the various challenges of the condition, I wanted to give something back.”

CBD is a neurodegenerative condition that causes the loss of neurons in the brain. The condition is life-limiting and leads to problems with mobility, cognition, and speech. There is currently no treatment or cure for the condition.

Anna will be running on behalf of PSPA which is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration (CBD).
