Fundraisers have swung into action for an Alton couple and a charity which provided care following the death of their premature baby.

George Littlewood was proof good things come in small packages: born at just 29 weeks and weighing 940g, he was a tiny, beautiful baby, perfect in every way.

But just ten days after his birth and a brave fight in two Hampshire hospitals, his health deteriorated.

The experience is one that no parent should go through, but Emily and Rob have used it to boost a charity that supported them and similarly bereaved parents in the darkest of times.

The pair were introduced by the midwifery bereavement team at Basingstoke hospital to The Forget me Not Fund. The charity supports families who are bereaved following late miscarriages, stillbirth and babies who die shortly after birth.

They gave the pair castings of George’s little feet, a teddy from some of his clothes and a special memory box to make the awful experience slightly more bearable.

“It made the world of difference to us on this horrendous journey,” said Emily.

“I had no idea such a charity existed until now and if we can help just one family have precious time with their baby then we will do it for George and in his memory.”

The pair have raised nearly £2,000 through a www.justgiving.com page - look for Emily Gard - while a friend also ran the Belfast Marathon in aid of the good cause. The next event will be a ‘Golf For George’ competition at Worldham Gold Course on July 21 with team places on a four-man scramble costing £20.
