Fabulous functional art made out of English mud that can go in the dishwasher – that is the creation of ceramicist Polly Middleton.
Polly, 57, earned a Master of Arts degree in three-dimensional design at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.
She has designed and produced two homeware collections, the vibrant and colourful Firecracker Sky and the monochrome Eclipse Moon. They are made and glazed in the home of pottery, Stoke-on-Trent.
Her business, which supports Period Poverty and Children on the Edge, began in lockdown. She said: “I was 55 and asking ‘what’s going on?’
“So I decided to do what I really wanted to do and this is something I have always dreamed of achieving.”
Polly’s pieces need an inner and outer box to protect them but she has found a British supplier of recycled packaging.
She said: “I’m so passionate about my bold collections being entirely British made. It’s as environmentally friendly as you can get.”
