Plans for an 80-bedroom hotel beside the A3 Buriton interchange will go to appeal later this month.
In April 2024, Amberleigh Projects had its proposal for a hotel and cycle centre off the B2070 Greenway Lane roundabout rejected by the South Downs National Park Authority.
At the time, director John Bell claimed the development would not threaten Buriton businesses and would help increase the local economy and create jobs.
The appeal means the Government’s Planning Inspectorate will now determine if the application is given the green light or not.
The hearing will take place on Tuesday, April 29 at 10am, and a decision is expected on or before May 19.
Previously, the planning committee felt that the proposal failed to enhance the national park with concerns also being raised about water run-off and access arrangements.
Reasons for refusal were:
- Impact on the character and appearance of the area and the special qualities of the National Park.
- Insufficient information relating to the management of Surface Water.
- Insufficient information relating to highways safety and access.
- Insufficient information relating to impacts on the PRoW crossing the site.
According to official documents, the proposals and the description of development for the scheme are unchanged from the planning application. But some amendments have been made to the proposals, including the flood-risk, public right of way and access and parking.
