PETERSFIELD, Alton and Bordon libraries are running a Chat About scheme aiming at alleviating loneliness and improve wellbeing.

Hampshire County Council spokesman Cllr Liz Fairhurst said: “Joining a Chat About scheme is an easy way to get started in opening up if you’re having a tough time, feeling lonely or if you want to connect with others.”

The council’s Chat About scheme provides welcoming, inclusive spaces where people can gather to connect and talk.

Specially trained staff will help introduce people into a group or to have a one-to-one conversation, and can also signpost people to resources for anyone looking for help.

Improving mental wellbeing lies at the heart of a new Hampshire multi-agency strategy outlining the commitment from various organisations - including the police, local authorities, charities and health professionals - to working together to improve outcomes and reduce inequalities in mental wellbeing for people in the county.

Other key priorities include rolling out training and support to build confidence among groups of frontline workers – such as those who work for charities, public sector and blue light services – in signposting sources of help and support, as well as increasing awareness of and access to the natural environment.
