Farnham Library came alive with joy, music, and cultural festivities recently as families from across area came together to welcome the Year of the Snake in a dazzling Chinese New Year celebration.
Organised by Triple Fun Chinese Language School (TFC), the event brought a vibrant mix of Chinese traditions, arts, and music to the heart of the community, illustrating the power of culture to unite people from all walks of life.
The celebration kicked off with a warm welcome from Linna Hardwick, headteacher of TFC, who set the tone for an afternoon filled with excitement.
The audience was treated to a performance of Golden Snake, a Chinese musical piece that featured a collaboration of local professional musicians and budding young talents.
The performance proved that music is a universal language, resonating with everyone regardless of background or nationality.
Among the distinguished guests were Farnham mayor, Cllr Brodie Mauluka, and Farnham and Bordon MP Greg Stafford, both of whom delivered speeches.
They praised the invaluable contribution of TFC in promoting cultural education and building stronger community ties. Embracing the festive spirit, the pair joined in traditional games like the Red Handkerchief and Yangko Dance, and explored the elegance of Chinese calligraphy, fully immersing themselves in the rich heritage on display.
Culture is what connects us, and shared traditions are the foundation of a strong and inclusive community, said Cllr Mauluka.
Mr Stafford praised TFC’s dedication to fostering multiculturalism, emphasising how events like this bring people together through joy, learning, and appreciation of diverse heritages.
Ms Hardwick said: “Triple Fun Chinese Language School believes that true language learning goes beyond words, it flourishes when children fall in love with the culture behind it.
“By integrating language, music, and tradition, we create an immersive and joyful learning experience that inspires the next generation.”
Looking ahead, TFC is inviting families to its next free open day, which will take place on Saturday, March 1, from 10am to 12pm at Barfield Prep School.
The event offers an opportunity for children to experience interactive Chinese language learning in a fun, engaging, and culturally enriched environment.
This successful celebration of Chinese New Year at Farnham Library not only showcased the beauty of Chinese culture but also underscored the importance of cultural exchange in building a more inclusive, understanding, and connected community.
