A rare window of opportunity has opened for people to help preserve 100 years of history at Haslemere Museum. To mark its upcoming centenary in 2026, the museum has launched a special appeal to raise vital funds for the upkeep of its historic Georgian building on Haslemere High Street.

The "Adopt a Pane" initiative offers supporters the chance to keep the museum going one pane at a time. Adopters can choose from a range of windows at different price points, with each adoption including a certificate that shows the specific location of the chosen window on the building. This personal connection to the museum allows individuals to play a direct role in its continued legacy.

As an independent charity, Haslemere Museum relies on donations to fund the essential maintenance of its historic structure and its vast collection of over 240,000 natural history specimens and 140,000 human history artefacts. The museum also features 15,000 square metres of stunning gardens. It costs £700 daily to keep the museum open, or a quarter of a million pounds a year, but as an independent charity, the museum depends on public support to remain open and accessible to the community.

Proceeds from the "Adopt a Pane" campaign will go directly toward the ongoing preservation of the museum’s building, its educational programs, and its gardens. This museum has been an integral part of the town’s heritage since its founding in 1888 by the renowned physician Sir Jonathan Hutchinson.

To support the appeal, simply visit the museum’s website, where you can select and adopt a window pane, and pay securely online. This opportunity is a wonderful way to show your support for a cherished local institution. With your help, Haslemere’s history can be preserved for the next 100 years.
