THE LIPHOOK Crankers are gearing up for this year’s Liphook Bike Ride.

Signs are already up across the village for this year’s ride, which will be held on Sunday, June 10.

Liphook Crankers spokesman and Liphook Bike Ride chairman Alistair Halliday said: “The Liphook Charity Bike Ride preparations are going well.

“We have received some excellent sponsorship from local businesses who are keen to help promote the event, along with great support from our East Hampshire district councillors, but we could do with some more marshals. If anyone wants to be a marshal on the day please get in touch.”

The start and finish will be at Bohunt School, and the start time will be 10am with the junior ride at 10.30am.

Liphook Guides will be providing three refreshment stops on the route while many other charities will also be present with stalls and facilities to add to the atmosphere. This year Bramshott Place, Barons BMW of Hindhead and Bohunt School are the main sponsors of the ride.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force and Petersfield Air Cadets will be providing support for the car parking on the playing field. Owens Cycles of Petersfield will be providing technical support for the bike ride.

As part of their preparations for this year’s ride, the Liphook Crankers have just completed a successful week’s cycling in Mallorca.

They cycled more than 290 miles and climbed more than 20,000 feet during the week. They climbed the infamous Sa Calobra mountain as well as Puig Major, the highest mountain in Mallorca in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains.

Riders can register online for the Liphook Bike Ride and to date more than 100 have already entered.

The Liphook Bike Ride website contains information on the ride as well as information for sponsors and charities and links to British Cycling. Anyone who wishes to take part should visit the website at: www.liphookbikeride.com and register.

Online registration closes at 9pm next Wednesday, June 6. Entry is £15 in advance online, or £25 on the day. The Liphook Crankers took over the responsibility for running the Liphook Charity Bike Ride from the Liphook and District Businessmen’s Association (LiDBA) in October 2015.
