CROSSOVER Youth Centre in Liss is appealing for more volunteers.
Crossover youth worker Agnes Jongwe said: “We understand the challenges young people go through and we are here to encourage, equip and support them by offering a safe place to hang out.
“We believe in supporting young people at an early age, therefore, we have sessions for junior school children too. This helps them with preparation for secondary school as they get to mix with Year 7 students who share their experiences of the big school. As well as set sessions, we also offer impromptu one to one mentoring depending on the young person’s needs. We also have detached workers who are often on streets in Liss reaching out to young people.
“As we are a charity-run organisation, all this is not possible without the help of our volunteers who give up their time to support us and our young people for the good of our community. Teenage years can be challenging as peer pressure is at its worst, therefore, the opportunity for these young people to have a safe space to confide, hang out and vent out does help.
“In order to continue the good work, Crossover needs more volunteers and donors in order to continue working with young people and run more sessions to reduce our young people loitering around and getting into trouble.”
