POLICE were called to a home off The Causeway after an ambulance crew responding to an emergency call arrived at the large detached house to find the victim was dead.
The ambulance was called to the house in Farm Drive on the new estate that joins The Causeway opposite Cranford Road in the early evening of Monday, August 5, and police officers arrived soon after.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at 6.35pm by our colleagues from the South East Coast Ambulance Service who were attending a report of seriously injured woman at a residential property.
“The woman, aged 69-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“I can confirm the death is being investigated by us, and we are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
“As part of our enquiries, we arrested a 71-year-old man. He has been released on bail while our enquiries continue.”
A resident in nearby Plough Lane said detectives were in the house until late last night, and police also questioned neighbours.
He said: “They asked me if I had seen anything suspicious, or untoward, which I hadn’t. But I got the impression from what they were saying it was very probably a murder enquiry.”
The next morning there were two marked police cars parked outside the house and scene of crimes officers were inside examining it in details.
