SKY Park Farm has opened its deer park, shop and cafe to visitors for free over the coming weekends as Covid restrictions ease.
Opening it has always been the ambition of the farm’s auctioneer owner Pierce Noonan and his wife Victoria; Pierce’s ancestors include Irish farmers and butchers.
He said: “The team has worked tirelessly to be ready for the farm opening.
“We have a unique experience that will complement the many other visitor attractions in the local area. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to Sky Park Farm.”
Plenty of work has taken place to bring the deer park to life, including putting up fenced paths between the deer paddocks, growing the 300-strong herd, creating picnic areas and building a deer barn, shop, education rooms and car park at the farm between West Harting and Durleigh Marsh on the A272.
A play park is set to open in mid-June, and a farm shop, butchers and the Grazing Rooms cafe in July.
Venison from the farm goes to restaurants and supermarket chains, and at this time of year farm life is in full flow.
The hinds (female deer) are pregnant with calves currently being born daily, and the yearlings are coming out of the barn into the paddocks.
A farm spokesman said: “The phased opening during May and June will enable visitors to see the calves and meet the deer herds and feed them.
“They can also follow the farm trail and enjoy fun family games in the marquee and free face painting, and picnic by the River Rother and Dew Pond.”
Entry is free for the first few weekends, but booking is essential.
Deer feeding will be at 11am and 3pm, and to book a visit see the website at www.skyparkfarm.com
