Crowds got to witness the fitness at Petersfield Rugby Club as the town’s Gladiator Camp held its first Summer Games.
Guests were definitely entertained as some of the South’s best athletes recently gathered at the Penns venue for a same-sex pair fitness competition.
Astrid The Viking – once again in the running for Personality of the Year at the Petersfield Awards – had a big hand in the first event of its kind at the club.
Pairs competed in four 12-minute workouts throughout the day in a test of endurance training, high intensity cardio and strength work with rests in-between.
Participants were scored for each individual workout with the winners receiving prices from local businesses including the likes of Earth To Oven and District Hobbs Sports Massage.
There was a local triumph in the men’s section with Jake Orr and Tom Rawlings of PRFC pipping Elliot & Riordan Hanan of Box49 Cross Fit to gold.
Sharna Huntington & Taryn Schmidt of CrossFit Basepoint saw off a strong challenge by Becky Piddlesden & Rhian Rudkin of CrossFit Choice in the women’s section.
“What was really nice about this event was how it brought people together from gyms across the South,” said Astrid, who wants to “big up” the unique event.
“They all worked together to create this, the first event of its kind in Petersfield and at this club.”
Astrid and her co-organisers wanted to publicly thank the first aiders to who provided support on the day and the club and crew for respectively hosting and helping.
