East Hampshire residents are being given a chance to see how to the UK’s first major reservoir for 30 years is shaping up.
People can see what progress is being made at the Havant Thicket Reservoir site during a drop-in event next Tuesday afternoon.
Visitors will get the chance to check out the new offices, meet the construction team and get views across the site from a panoramic rooftop platform between 3pm and 5pm.
The reservoir was recently granted planning permission but the scheme by Portsmouth Water is controversial because treated water will be pumped into its basin.
Bosses want to involve and engage residents from the likes of Rowlands Castle and Horndean and give them a first-hand chance to see what’s happening at the site between Leigh Park, Staunton Country Park and the B2419.
“After nearly three years spent carefully preparing the site, I’m delighted to announce that work to create the first major UK reservoir in nearly 30 years – Havant Thicket Reservoir – has officially begun,” said Bob Taylor, chief executive officer of Portsmouth Water.
“To mark this occasion, we would like to invite members of the public to our offices and see the progress being made.”
Due to the size of the offices, capacity will be limited to 30 people. Future events will likely be able to accommodate larger groups, so anybody unable to attend will have the opportunity at a later date.
