It was a day of inspiring people to be greener and healthier while surrounded by nature at the Heath in Petersfield.
The second Eco Fair returned on Sunday, July 14. Hailed as having ‘a lovely, welcoming atmosphere’ by visitors, this year’s event was blessed with sunshine and a light breeze.
It was opened by the Deputy Town Crier, followed by Mayor JC Crissey, Cllr Rob Mocatta and Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) Chair Greg Ford. The live music then kicked off and around 1,500 visitors started exploring what was on offer.
One visitor said that they were “proud of Petersfield for putting on this kind of event”. Additionally, it was “full of people inspired to do things differently, it’s great for supporting local businesses and initiatives”.
Wildlife fans could look at live reptiles and find out from nature groups about how to boost local biodiversity. People could gain advice on their own green energy options from installers and find out how community energy solutions can reduce individual and collective carbon footprints.
Cycling groups and companies offered free advice and checks, with a wide variety of electric vehicles on display. Local climate groups were represented, alongside a good selection of sustainable retailers encouraging a low-waste way of life.
Other highlights included the children’s tent, songs from Ukrainian Choir who were dressed traditionally and the announcement of photography competition winners. Young writers competition participants will get to read out their entries on Shine Radio.
The event was organised by PeCAN and Petersfield Town Council (PTC), with financial support from PTC and East Hampshire District Council. Including assistance from 40 volunteers and Petersfield Society. Who helped with the clear-up and ensured that the Heath was left spotless.
Many attendees said they would love the Fair to be an annual event rather than biennial event.
