THE NEW headteacher at Liss Junior School is settling into her role.
Jillian Myers has taken over after previous headteacher Andrew Burford retired in the summer after 20 years in the position.
Jillian was previously the headteacher at Weyford Junior School in Bordon.
She said: “I’m settling in really well and everyone is making me feel very welcome here.”
Jillian was attracted to the school by the facilities it has to offer and its potential moving forward.
“Liss is a village school and I was attracted here by the resource provision and the wonderful grounds and views here,” said Jillian.
“I’m looking forward to my time here with the staff and I want to put Liss Junior School on the map. The school has such potential.”
Jillian has already made a couple of changes as she puts her own mark on the school.
The school used to combine Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, but Jillian has changed that and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all separate now.
“I’ve introduced Building Learning Power and I’m introducing team captains to help the move into single age classes,” said Jillian.
Liss Junior School already has a well-established link with Kafuro Primary School in Uganda through the Queen Elizabeth Parks Twinning Project, and Jillian is hoping this successful partnership will continue to flourish.
“The school already does a lot of work in Uganda and I want to keep that going,” said Jillian.
Despite being excited by her new challenge, Jillian admits she found it difficult to leave her old job.
“I enjoyed my time at Weyford Junior School and it was sad to say goodbye to the staff and children,” she added.
“I had been there for 15 years and I felt it was time for something different.”
