England’s stuttering run in the Euros has also led to a team talk being called at Petersfield Festival Hall amid lessening interest in film showings.
A report produced for a town council committee acknowledges that turnout at cinema events “continues to be weakened” with bosses looking at ways to revive interest.
A meeting was due to take place early this weekend to discuss the drop and the forthcoming film programme as there have been doubts over the some of the previous choices for screening.
Some of the dates have also clashed with England Euro 2024 games while it’s also been suggested that a film cancellation in March may have “severely impacted confidence” in the event.
Gripes have also been raised about the irregularity of showings and the “consistently poor” sound although the feedback was the polar opposite for the recent showing of The Marvels with the audio being hailed as the best since showings began.
Bosses have also received glowing feedback regarding the new top-of-the-range laser projector used in the showings of The Marvels and the Oscar-winning Poor Things.
The projector was being demoed but a £19,000 purchased – reduced from £34,000 – is being considered as the improved kit will allow operators to show film events that are currently unavailable due to the capability of the current projector.
Improvements in sound and audio have been earmarked as a key way to revive interest while event promotion is also being reviewed as part of a wider Festival Hall marketing operation.
