The Winton Players in Petersfield, set sail across the high seas this year with the pantomime of Robinson Crusoe.

Set in 18th century Portsmouth, the story is about Robinson Crusoe (Karla Welch) and his sweetheart, Polly Perkins (Daisy Bedford), as they set out on a treasure hunt to Skeleton Island with their family so they can marry.

Standout performances from Billy Crusoe (Joe Tully), Olivia Crusoe (Joff Lacey) and Captain Tiberius Hand (Simon Stanley) have the audience in constant laughter.

The junior and senior chorus are a fantastic supporting cast and helped bring the play to life with their tunes and dance. One highlight was the junior’s performance of Under the Sea and the senior’s Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me), sparking memories of Disney films from childhood.

An appearance from a cannibal tribe who don’t speak English adds to the amusing atmosphere with Kookee’s (Ben Wade) way of moving and carrying the big cooking pot, causing a few giggles.

Friends Ted (Em Sefton-Smith) and Ned (George Pinhorn) could easily have their own little show with their naivety and theatrics that are hard not to love.

The panto features classic audience interaction with Billy saying “Hiya mates!”, with the audience responding “Hiya Billy!”

Near the end, the entire audience stands up and joins in a musical number with corresponding movements that provides another good laugh as it turns into a competition of who is better.

Ending on a high note was seeing Robinson granted permission to marry Polly by her father Squire Perkins (Wayne Pinhorn), who every father can relate to in wanting the best for their children.

The Winton Players deliver another brilliant panto that is fun to watch. Be sure to catch the final performances this weekend!
