A PAIR of kingfishers have been spotted on Petersfield Heath pond.
To catch fish, the brightly- coloured birds study the water from overhanging branches then dive on to prey as it swims by.
But there are fears the cutback of trees along the eastern side of the pond, where the birds have taken up residence, could drive them away.
Bird enthusiast Paul Tarling said: “I can’t ever remember them being there, but they will move on very soon if they cut back all the overhanging habitat. I don’t believe any law has been broken but just seems such a shame.”
