A TOP model will make a rare public appearance as part of a D-Day commemorative event in a south of Butser village.
The Rowlands Castle History and Heritage group will display its model railway of the village centre in May 1944 as part of a weekend of events.
They have also made a public appeal for memories, artefacts and memorabilia as an exhibition is planned for their June 29-30 showpiece to mark the 80th anniversary of the landings.
Rowlands Castle played its part in the operation as there was a military build-up in the village in the run up to June 6.
While the amazingly detailed model railway is bound to attract the most interest, the showcase will also feature display boards with information about the milestone.
Organisers are keen to boost their knowledge and trove of information so have asked residents with any memories or stories of the village in wartime to get in touch.
“Were you living in the village during this time or had living relatives who were?,” said Alan Eyers, the group’s chair.
“Do you or they have any artefacts, pictures or memorabilia you could lend us to put on display? Will we, of coursem keep any such items safe and secure at all times.
“Do you have any stories and memories you could share with us, so we could record these for our website?
“Were any family or friends involved with the various voluntary groups, the Home Guard (Dad's Army) as an example? We would love to hear from you.”
