THEIR stunning performance of Oliver! in January was a triumph and left audiences wanting more of the same.

So expect another treat when the Petersfield Youth Theatre (PYT) return to the Festival Hall stage next week with an all-singing, all-dancing production.

Their latest stage show will be an adaptation of Singin’ in the Rain with the curtain lifting at Petersfield Festival Hall next Tuesday evening and running until September 21.

It should be “even better than Oliver!” according to one member with the show boasting a huge and talented cast, impressive sets and a host of wonderful songs.

The play has been adapted from the classic 1952 movie of the same name and is set in the waning days of the silent film era.

Screen star Don Lockwood realises the future of the film industry lies in talkies but is horrified to find his leading lady has a voice better suited to silence.

The plot focuses on Lockwood and his sidekick, Cosmo Brown, aspiring actress Kathy Selden and Lina Lamont, whose less-than-dulcet vocal tones make her an unlikely candidate for stardom.

“Filled with a downpour of unforgettable song and dance numbers, PYT are all set to entertain, charm and delight,” said a spokeswoman for the acclaimed group.

“Add in the Hollywood glitz, witty dialogue and hilarious situations and Singin’ in the Rain is sure to make ‘em laugh and give audiences that glorious feeling.”

Shows will be on every night at 7.30pm from next Tuesday to Saturday, September 21, with a 2pm matinee performance taking place on the Saturday.

Tickets have been selling fast but they can still be purchased in person at One Tree Books in Lavant Street, Petersfield, or online via www.ticketsource.co.uk/peters fieldyouththeatre

Fans of the group should also circle December 16 on the calendar for the Christmas production which this year will be an adaptation of the children’s classic, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
