The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the upper River Wey area, following heavy rainfall from Storm Bert.

Although property flooding is not currently expected, the region is facing elevated river levels, with flooding of low-lying land and roads anticipated, especially around the Tilford area.

The Alton, Farnham, Bordon, Frensham, Godalming, Guildford, and Haslemere areas could also be impacted.

The flood alert will remain in place as river levels are expected to stay high throughout the evening of 24 November, with more heavy rain on its way before a drier day tomorrow.

River levels are expected to begin receding on the morning of 25 November, but the situation will continue to be monitored closely.

The public were advised to avoid low-lying footpaths near watercourses, as conditions may worsen throughout the evening. The Environment Agency said its staff were checking and clearing trash screens to reduce any potential flooding risks.
