Over the past year or so, the radio controlled yacht sailors at Frensham have been collecting cash for their chosen charity Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice – even though it has not all been plain sailing!
Of course Covid stopped all sailing during most of 2021 and early 2022 and then, once things resumed, weed started blighting the water at Frensham.
The weed only affected the small RC yachts and not the dinghies but it lasted some months – again interfering with charity collecting activities.
Paul Brooks, of Frensham Pond Sailing Club’s Radio Sailing Group, said: “All this is now behind us. Still, we pressed on and, in May 2023, the sum of £545 was able to be handed over to Shooting Star Chase in the person of Sarah May, who even tried out sailing one of the yachts with no collisions or capsizes – which is more than can be said for many of the regular skippers!
“Sarah was delighted to accept the contributions and thanked all those who had put cash into the ‘orange bucket’ – used for many years for this purpose.”
