Students at Bohunt School in Liphook collected their GCSE examination results in a day of celebration before embarking on the next stage of their education.
Staff and students joined together to celebrate their fabulous achievement at the end of what has been an unprecedented finish to the academic year for all schools across the country, in light of Covid-19 and the cancellation of exams this summer.
The grading process established by the government this year involved teachers assessing each student and awarding grades they considered would be achieved before the nationwide moderation by external exam boards.
Despite this, Bohunt School, the founding school of the eponymous and high-achieving Bohunt Education Trust (BET), has continued to perform highly, with many individual success stories.
There is a special mention to two students, Edie Carruthers and Ashleigh Stemp, who achieved ten grade 9s; Ashleigh also gained the top grade A in additional maths.
Clara Lo Lacono attained nine grade 9s and two grade 8s, plus the top grade A in additional maths; Lois Boyle attained nine grade 9s and one grade 8; Noah Joseph and Daisy Beattie attained eight grade 9s and two grade 8s, and Millie Smith achieved eight grade 9s, one grade 8 and a grade 7.
All students who sat GCSE statistics in Year 10 also gained a grade 7 and above.
Bohunt School’s innovative CLiL programme, which saw Year 9 students taking GCSE Mandarin two years early, also achieved a fantastic 100 per cent grades 9 to 4 and an amazing 93 per cent at grade 7 and above.
Headteacher Neil Stowager added: “Our young people have demonstrated resilience, resolve and tremendous commitment throughout these unprecedented times. They thoroughly deserve their results, which will set them up well for the next stage of their education. I look forward to welcoming many back to Bohunt Sixth Form in September.”
Because of Covid-19 and exams being cancelled, exam grades were determined by teachers, based on work students produced during their course, in line with government guidance. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades.
