New larger glass recycling banks are being installed across East Hampshire to enhance and encourage glass recycling.
East Hampshire District Council, with Norse South East, has agreed to introduce 10,700-litre enclosed skips that are nine times larger than current glass collection bins.
They are fitted with a sensor to allow remote monitoring of capacity available before emptying is required, reducing the environmental impact of unnecessary collections. Installation will begin during the next fortnight.
Cllr Robert Mocatta, portfolio holder for climate change and placemaking, said: “The new banks are a cost-effective way to increase recycling by providing larger glass banks.
“It will also reduce the number of trips made to empty the banks, reducing our carbon footprint.”
