A Grade II Listed building on Petersfield High Street will undergo vital repairs after receiving permission earlier this month.

Winton House Centre will have repair work done to the exterior render, front door and porch redecoration and replacement of interior fans - repairs will also be done to the windows along with replacements to any damaged ones.

Winton is a charity that supports the local community and aims to bring people together. It was created after the Winton House Trust and Petersfield Voluntary Centre merged to form the Winton House Centre.

Writing in support of the application, one person said: “The Winton House organisation is not only at the heart of Petersfield but the heart of the community and the social welfare of that community. With stewardship of this Grade II Listed Building.”

“Winton House is blessed with excellent management and trusteeship who have taken great care in looking after the building, taking advice and maintaining to a high standard. I have every faith in this project and fully support.”

According to the charity, the building was built around 1590 as part of a busy coaching inn, and provided a staging post for travellers on the London to Portsmouth Road.

The application’s heritage statement said where possible, works will be kept to a minimum in order to “retain and protect the historic nature of the property”.

The statement added: “Works are intended to be sensitive to the existing characteristics of the property and will only positively affect the historic elements of the property.”
