HARTING Primary School pupils, staff and parents enjoyed a day of rescheduled March events that had been cancelled because of falling snow and plummeting temperatures when the ‘Beast from East’ struck.
Last Friday (March 23) became ‘Bear Book Day’ and children dressed up as characters from books about bears – something that should have happened on World Book Day, Thursday, March 1.
School spokesman Viv Wilson said: “There were Goldilocks, a few Bear Grylls and characters from the Paddingon bear story.”
And visiting author David Fuller shared his craft with the older pupils, revealing that he writes things to please himself which happen to also be well received by children.
Viv added: “Meanwhile Year 5 pupils went to the woods, but not for a teddy bears picnic.
“They enjoyed their final Forest School session for the term with a camp fire cook-out, at our Forest School site on the downs, which is loaned to us by the National Trust.”
And while all this was going on, younger pupils took part in an African dance workshop, run by drummers from Guinea, who have been visiting the school for eight years – whenever one of the classes is focusing on African culture.
Headteacher at the school in Tipper Lane Fiona Mullett said: “It’s something like an aerobic workout, and the children love it and have a wonderful experience.
“At the end of the day, parents and children were all dancing to the rhythm of African drums in the school hall.”
