The Pub With No Name is back in safe hands – and the historic East Hampshire watering hole is on course to reopen this autumn.
Landlords Charlie Kearns and Eddie Tyrwhitt-Drake want to reassure drinkers after getting the keys to the remote pub in Priors Dean.
The pair have long dreamt about running a pub together and felt it was destiny when the PWNN became available.
Rumours about the future of the pub – its proper name is The White Horse, but few call it that – have been spreading like nettles on a Hangers footpath since it closed in July.
Any doubts should be immediately dispelled as the pair are hopeful of a mid-autumn reopening following some very minor changes.
It’s been given a new lick of paint for a start, with the cream exterior walls being returned to their original white.
No permanent or structural changes are taking place with the pub still offering the same, timeless, olde-worlde welcome.
People who fancy a pint will still be able to relax in the timeless low-beamed Edward Thomas Bar, which takes a life of its own in winter when the fire is roaring.
But it will also appeal to diners as Eddie and Charlie want to provide traditional and seasonal dishes that celebrate local meat and produce.
They’re looking for a head chef to make that dining dream a reality while the pair are also keen to bring back the annual beer festival.
If everything goes to plan the PWNN should be open by Bonfire Night.
It will remain something of a secret, though, as there are definitely no plans to return its long-missing sign to the side of the Froxfield to Monkwood road.
By the way, if you know why there is no swinging board then please get in touch. Contact reporter Paul Ferguson at [email protected] – the new landlords would like to know the story too!
