THE MUCH-coveted hand-crocheted poppies by Kristina Lloyd of Petersfield raised £1,360.
Her crochet needle was kept busy as the Highfield Road resident sold her creations at Waitrose in the run up to Remembrance Sunday in aid of the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
“I lost count of how many poppies I made,” said Kristina. “I crocheted about 150 poppies and 30 head bands in advance, but as the poppies flew off the stand I started to crochet on site at Waitrose and continued at home.
“When the demand was more and more, I decided to take orders. After a rest and supper, I started crocheting again until as late as midnight sometimes. I made about 150 more poppies.’
Kristina joked she worked harder than when she was a cook at Stroud House Home, but added, “at least I was sitting down!”
