A showjumper based near Alton is the pride of East Hampshire after following his father’s footsteps by taking Olympic gold.
The boy from Bentworth has done good as Harry Charles finished top of the podium in the team jumping final at the Chateau de Versailles.
The 25-year-old jumped to glory alongside Scott Brash and Ben Maher in Paris – the same pair who took gold for Team GB at London 2012 alongside his father, Peter Charles.
The rider from Heathcroft Farm showed incredible maturity aboard Romeo 88 with a superb round and time to help his team pip the USA to the title.
Harry called his teammates “his heroes” and was cheered on by friends and his father, who encouraged him to enjoy every minute of the medal ceremony.
Sadly there was no double glory as Charles was forced to withdraw from Tuesday’s individual final because of a small overreach, but leaving Paris with a gold medal was still beyond his dreams.
