After concerns this year’s Liphook carnival could be the last in its 120-year life, organisers have announced that thanks to an influx of new volunteers, it will go ahead next year.
Carnival committee chairman Sally Cameron said: “After careful consideration and a lot of new support, the committee has made the decision to continue the carnival.”
This year’s carnival on October 29 saw a record number of floats including the Liphook in Bloom float that was awarded first prize in the adult category.
In Bloom chairman Jo Holdsworth said: “Great fun was had by our lovely team at the carnival, and we won a prize!”
Since the carnival, the team has been busy planting about 9,000 bulbs and 2,000-plus plants around the village, and despite the wet weather the job was finished this week.
Jo added: “The recent rain made it difficult, and we had to cancel one planting weekend, but it’s all done now ready for next spring.”
