LISS Cricket Club is hoping to raise money to build a new pavilion.
The club, which is based at The Glebe, says it needs new facilities.
Liss Cricket Club chairman Lawrence Baker said: “We’d like a major refurbishment as the facilities we have are not right for today.
“We need more facilities.
“Liss Athletic Football Club’s juniors play here in the winter and we need facilities for umpires and referees, as well as female and disabled facilities.
“It is good to have sport played here all year round though.”
The club is in the process of raising money for the development.
Lawrence explained: “The Football Foundation will help us, and the council has given us a few grants, but we need serious money.
“We’ve raised around £10,000 to date through quiz nights and advertising banners, which is not to be sniffed at.
“The final cost will depend on the design, but we are looking at about £250,000.
“Once we have plans and prices we can then go to Sport England, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and the Football Foundation.”
Cricket was originally played in Liss on West Liss Recreation ground before the Second World War.
However, after the war, Mrs Grant, who lived at the Old Rectory and owned Glebe Meadow, loved cricket and offered the club the meadow to create a cricket field. She then built a summerhouse in her garden so she could watch the games.
Cricket was first played on this ground in 1948 as it took two years to prepare.
The club has moved on significantly since those days and now have two teams in the Hampshire Cricket League, a Sunday team, midweek team and two junior teams – under-11s and 15s.
