THE LISS Villager of the Year trophy will be awarded to Sue Jordan.

Sue will receive the trophy at Liss Parish Council’s annual parish meeting, which will be held in the village hall at 8pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Sue is receiving the award for all of her work in the community.

She is a trustee of the Triangle Centre, and volunteers her time in the coffee bar at the Triangle.

Sue is also on the Triangle Centre’s events committee, and she helps to organise various fundraising events.

She is also the secretary of Liss Horticultural Society, and she is part of the team which plants containers in the centre of the village.

Sue admitted she was surprised when she found out she had won the award.

She said: “I can only describe it as having very mixed emotions from shock, embarrassment, being flattered and very honoured, because I love and thrive on what I do.

“I think it is important to emphasise I am not alone in what I do and I persuade other people to volunteer and help, and without them I couldn’t do it. So I am accepting the award on behalf of all the volunteers who work with me in Liss and do so much.

“Liss is a fantastic place to live. Mike and I moved here 14 years ago and my first bit of volunteering was with the Brownies where I met a teacher from the infant school who asked if I had any spare time, which led to me spending nine years volunteering at the infant school doing all sorts of tasks from helping children in the class, outside with gardening and helping on school trips.

“I loved it but it was time to move on, and I was also at the same time involved with the horticultural society and the Triangle Centre.

“Another activity that I help with is the Dementia cafe afternoons that we hold in the Triangle a few times a year.”
