A football coach will continue warming up the bench long after retirement thanks to grateful supporters of his Meon Valley club.
A bench dedicated to Dean Castles has been unveiled in recognition of his “unparalleled” 22 years of commitment to Meonstoke Junior FC and their Meerkats side.
The gesture was made by the kids he coaches and their parents with around 65 villagers attending the ceremony at Meon Hall recreation ground.
“I was asked by a friend to help coach at a new club that had been set up and that was 22 years ago,” said Dean, who was “stunned” when the kids unveiled the bench.
“The kindness, gratitude and support shown from all the families who come down ever Saturday with their kids was overwhelming.”
Thanks was also given to Lucy Stewart and Nicky Clark as the respective pair and treasurer have kept the club running for more than three years.
