AMPHIBIANS thought to be frogs (similar to the ones pictured) were seen migrating in their hundreds on Petersfield Heath on Saturday night as the mild weather turned damp.
It’s the first time in recent years the mass migration has been seen, and it was a “beautiful sight,” says Kathryn Mitchell who was on her way to work when she came across the exodus towards the pond and water filled ditches where they will breed for the next week or so.
She said: “I have never seen so many at once, every footstep had to be taken with care as the paths were literally alive with these beautiful little creatures. They were everywhere in about a 200 metre area, from the water’s edge along to the mud pathway overlooked by music hill.”
