Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for most but one seven-year-old has noticed that it is not the case for everyone in Farnham.
Despite being so young, Evie has seen many homeless people in town and was curious as to what they do during the festive period.
She asked her mum: “Mummy what do the homeless do at Christmas time?” After her mother, Leyanne, explained the issues homeless people face over Christmas. She then told her daughter about her own donations to Crisis, a charity that aims to help tackle homelessness in the UK.
Inspired, Evie has set out to undertake 100 acts of kindness to raise funds for the charity and make everyone smile over Christmas.
She began the challenge on the first weekend of December by handing out cakes, candles and cards she made in the town centre. So far, Evie has raised more than £300 with her mother increasing the target because of the wave of support and donations.
The money raised will go towards providing homeless people with a safe place to stay, hot meals and access to health and wellbeing programmes.
Evie has been so excited by the support she has received and is waiting to hear the updates from her mother daily, on how much money has been raised. Leyanne is so proud of her and is intrigued by how she has so much compassion at a young age.
Leyanne said: ”It is just wonderful, I’m so proud of her for thinking of others and we need to think about others at Christmas time. We have so much and other people in town have so little, any donations we get now is just wonderful.”
