MINDLESS thugs have left a non-league football club with an unwanted bill after vandalising a dugout.

Staff and players at Liss Athletic are keen to publicise their “disappointment” after idiots struck again at their Newman Collard home.

The latest took place in broad daylight as several bricks were dislodged by brazen vandals sometime between midday and 2.30pm last Thursday. 

The roof to one of the dugouts was also damaged with a resident also spotting bonfires being lit in the area.

The club suffered a near-identical incident four years ago when vandals knocked out breeze blocks, causing the dugout roof to collapse and leaving the club with a £700 repair bill.

LAFC chairman and secretary Peter Storrie hopes a recently-installed CCTV system will lead the club and police to the culprits.

The former Pompey bigwig has also called on local parents to take more responsibility as they must have an inkling over who is responsible.

He said: “Once again it’s very disappointing.

“We’re a community club that gives football to youngsters in Liss and the surrounding area. 

“My appeal is to the parents because I’m sure they know who’s done it.

“We’re a small club run by volunteers and we have to raise money to keep the club going and this is an extra bill which we haven’t really got the budget for. I just don’t see the logic in what they’re thinking.”

Thankfully there is a builder at the club who can make repairs while LAFC is liaising with the Newman Collard Playing Fields Trust to get CCTV footage to help with identifying the culprits. 

“We feel this needs highlighting as the club and its loyal band of volunteers do a lot of good work,” said LAFC’s media officer Simon Jasinski.

“It’s disgraceful that mindless vandalism has taken place that we now have to clear up.”
