DETAILS of plans for an Armed Forces Day Convoy of Second World War military vehicles to travel up the Meon Valley on June 25 have been revealed.

It will follow a 37-mile route from Southwick House along A32 to the Milestones Living History Museum in Basingstoke.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Interest in and support for the event has been encouraging and it is to be hoped that the day proves to be one of celebration and reflection for all those
involved.”

A vintage coach carrying veterans and guests in the convoy will be escorted by 30 motorcyclists of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, some of them Falklands veterans.

The convoy departure from Southwick after a church service will be presided over by Nigel Atkinson, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

Sixty military vehicles escorted by the outriders will travel from Southwick Park via the B2177 to Wickham, where it will join the A32.

The convoy will travel through Droxford, Corhampton and Warnford to West Meon, Privett, East Tisted and Farringdon to join the A31 to Alton, where the town mayor will take the final salute.

Leaving Alton on the B3349 at 10.50am, the convoy will stop at Lasham Airfield at 11am for 40 minutes. The final leg is via the A339 to Basingstoke, arriving at midday to join a welcome home event taking place at Milestones from 9am to 5pm.
