A FORMER pupil at West Meon Primary School is getting her hair cut to raise money for a children’s cancer charity after losing her aunt and grandfather to cancer.
Neva Wayland-Pratt (12) is raising money for The Little Princess Trust through a sponsored haircut, which will see her locks shortened by about eight-and-a-half inches.
Neva is also planning to donate the trimmed hair to the charity, which provides free real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.
Having left primary school, Neva is now in her second year at The Petersfield School (TPS), and is appealing to people to sponsor her hair cut.
Her mother Claire said: “Neva lost her aunt and grandfather in the last three years and so raising money to help children and donating her hair is her way of doing something positive to help.
“She has asked friends, family and teachers from TPS and West Meon Primary, to sponsor her for this small but invaluable charity.
“The trust was set up in memory of four-year-old Hannah Triplee, from Hereford, who lost a short battle with cancer in June 2005, the same year Neva was born.
“After Hannah died, her parents set up this charity with the support of the school and friends.”
Neva’s father, television auctioneer Jonathan Pratt added: “Neva’s had quite a response so far, and on top of the website donations she has collected more than £100 in cash donations.”
The family has moved to Steep Marsh, but Jonathan is still a governor at the West Meon school.
