WHEN Henry VIII’s favourite ship, the Mary Rose, broke the surface of the Solent on October 11, 1982, it was one of those occasions which people who witnessed it, either live or on television, will not forget.
The Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard will be commemorating the anniversary of this historic moment with a host of events across the week of October 6-14.
All week, a working model of Tog Mor, the lifting crane which raised the Mary Rose’s hull 36 years ago will be displayed in the museum. The giant model will be operated by one of the original Mary Rose divers, who will be on hand to talk about their personal experiences.
