THE CENTENARY of the daring Zeebrugge Raid, which attempted to blockade German forces at the Belgian port, will be commemorated with a two-day conference at The National Museum of the Royal Navy, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Eight Victoria Crosses were awarded in the aftermath of the raid which was considered one of the key moments of the First World War.

Leading historians will be speakers at the conference, on April 20 and 21, exploring various aspects of the raid on the morning of April 23, 1918. There will also be a showing of the 1924 film Zeebrugge.
