Alton College has proved its academic prowess for another year with 98 per cent of A-Level students making the grade on results day and nearly half achieving either A*, A or B.

The numbers were good in Further Mathematics with 40 per cent getting A* or A, while 70 per cent of English Literature students picked up one of the highest three grades.

Results day isn’t what it used to be at Alton College as most students now check their results online, with few choosing the old-school option of leaving it to the envelope.

But there were still hugs, high-fives and whoops of delight in reception with some coming in to thank students and claim the paper confirmation of their success.

Mike Gaston, principal, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements this year – their hard work, resilience and determination have paid off, and we are delighted to see them succeed.”
