A Petersfield shop owner has had a birthday to forget as a blow-out smashed her front window a day before the store’s first anniversary.
Twillys fabric alterations shop was rocked by an explosion after a lorry tyre blew out last Wednesday, February 5.
Owner Tanya Wilkinson was repairing a trouser pocket when the incident occurred the day before the first anniversary of her shop opening on Chapel Street.
She said: “All of a sudden, there was this huge boom!
“I looked up and at the same time, the window was shattering. I sort of jumped back and screamed, the dog was going absolutely mental.
“People from the neighbouring shops asked if I was okay, I was shaking and I started to feel a bit tearful.
“It happened on Wednesday and the Thursday was the first anniversary of us opening.”
Tanya says the tinted UV film on the back of the glass prevented the shards coming inside and cutting her to shreds.
People told Tanya the noise had been heard as far away as the top end of Winton Road, Lavant Street, Rams Walk and The Square.
Farnham-based Pump Services Surrey Ltd, operator of the 18 tonne lorry, was contacted for comment.
