MORE than 400 Milland villagers, many dressed in patriotic costume and colours, ignored looming black clouds to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Held close to The Rising Sun pub on Sunday, the village street party was a marvellous afternoon of family fun and games, said organisers.
Partygoers brought their own picnic lunch and drinks to enjoy and share, and staff from The Rising Sun served traditional Pimms.
Denise Ogilvie said: “There seemed to be endless bunting and balloons, which set the scene perfectly.
“Despite the black clouds, there wasn’t any rain, and in true Milland style, the sun managed to shine through.”
Paula Gratton ran a “fabulous” creative tent for the children, where they could make crowns.
A jazz band played throughout the afternoon, adding to the buzz of people enjoying themselves.
A relay race and tug of war were just two of the events organised, enjoyed by both young and old, while Aspire Sports kept the children busy with more games and a football match.
Denise added: “The day finished with a toast to the Queen and the singing of the National Anthem.
“It is truly a great community, who enjoyed a wonderful day together.”
