Friends and relatives of a selfless pensioner have given a Petersfield charity many happy returns on her 90th birthday.

Age Concern Petersfield have received a £341.90 birthday gift from regular user and staunch supporter, Ann Lee.

The nonagenarian asked friends and family to make a donation to the Winton House-based charity instead of giving her presents for her 90th.

And they were happy to oblige as donation pots were filled during her recent birthday bash at the Spread Eagle in West Liss.

“I just said to everyone, no presents, but could people make a donation to Age Concern instead and everyone seemed delighted to help,” said the birthday girl.

“I’m delighted we did it and raised all that money, and I think it’s worked out very well, especially as it’s such a good place.”

Ann has been a regular at the charity’s lunch club at the Winton House Centre for years and often joins their outings.

Age Concern Petersfield staff and volunteers have been touched by her “very generous gesture” with manager, Sheridan Rocher, giving her daily running totals.

“Ann has been coming in nearly every day to see how much has been donated and every day it’s been a little bit more – it’s definitely worth celebrating,” said Sheridan.

“She is such a lovely woman and we are all just so grateful to her for her thoughtfulness.

“We rely on legacies and donations to run, as we receive no government or council funding, so this will make a difference.”
