A PERSON has died after being struck by a train near a level crossing between Petersfield and Haslemere.

The incident took place close to Liss station around 10am with the victim being pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The death is not currently being treated as suspicious while officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

A spokeswoman for BTP said the person’s gender will not be confirmed until the victim’s family have been informed.

South Western Railways have confirmed that services between Haslemere and Havant have been suspended in the meantime.

A spokesman said: “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Haslemere and Havant all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 2pm”.
