A PETERSFIELD pensioner who has lived all his life in the same house celebrated his 90th birthday with a party laid on by neighbours.

Peter Marshall was born on June 5, 1931, in his parents’ Rushes Road house – 90 years later it is still his home – and he was a retained fireman for 33 years at Petersfield fire station.

At one point he even owned a fire engine!

For his birthday friends and neighbours got together to organise a street party for him.

He was joined by family and past and present friends and neighbours for drinks and cakes.

And to round off his birthday weekend, he was taken out to lunch by his nephew Patrick, who also lives in Petersfield.

Joint party organiser and neighbour Joy Barnes said: “Peter is a very nice man, very kind and lovely to see him enjoy his birthday. It was a great day for him.”

Peter left the-then Petersfield Senior School, now the town infant school in St Peters Road, when he was 14 to start work, and is a familiar face at Buriton church, where he helped with the flowers for many years.

He is also well known in Rushes Road for the Christmas lights displays he first put up in 1995 to decorate his home.

However, in 2016 he was undecided if the light show, front-room decorations and brightly-lit model homes would go up. But neighbours stepped in to help him and the popular light show went ahead as in previous years.
