A PETERSFIELD church will be looking blooming marvellous this coming weekend when it holds a flower festival.
St Peter’s Church will be filled with an array of colourful flowers and a variety of scents during the three-day event this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The event has taken months to plan, with plenty of discussion about the displays, and drawings have been produced of how they might look before the floral presentations start to take shape in the church.
With such a large area to fill inside the church building, St Peter’s flower arranging team has called on the support of other arranging groups in Petersfield Area Churches Together (PACT) and flower guilds to give them a helping hand in setting up the displays.
The theme for the event will see all of the colours of the rainbow on display as the festival displays will tell the story of creation.
The arrangements will begin with ’darkness hovering over the surface of the deep’ and then flow through the seasons, water, the days of creation before culminating in the tranformation of the chancel to show the Garden of Eden.
Organisers believe the festival will provide an amazing spectacle for visitors.
A spokeswoman for the event said: "June is such a wonderful month with a huge variety of flowers to choose from.
"Challenging decisions have had to be made as to which variety to choose, the exact colour for the arrangement to interpret creation in its entirety from day one through to day seven, as well as the creation of music, seasons and flowers.
"There is such a wealth of talent within our community and it is great to see everybody working towards a common goal.
"There has been much fun, laughter and yes, probably some tears on the side as planning does not quite go according to the developed vision.
"Such a broad spectrum of imagination and talent is going into bringing together a dazzling display for all to admire."
Work begins today (Wednesday) on starting to put the floral displays together and this will not be completed until tomorrow.
The flower festival will then open to visitors on Friday and Saturday from 9.30am-5pm and on Sunday from 11am-5.30pm.
Entrance will be by donation, with a minimum of £5 being suggested.
A leaflet is being put together so visitors to the festival will be able to understand what each display represents and how it has been assembled.
Refreshments and a raffle will also be available throughout the festival in the church, which is located off The Square.
On Monday, June 18, all of the fresh flowers used in the displays will be available for sale from 9.30am.
