AFTER months of lockdown online meetings, Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) made its first public appearance at Sunday’s farmers’ market in the Square.

Volunteers from Petersfield’s new environmental charity decorated the stall with hand-stitched bunting and information and sign-up sheets for activities from home retrofitting to bicycle buddies were available.

PeCAN secretary Catriona Cockburn said: “We were really cheered by the level of interest and support.

“The environment and climate change are clearly on people’s minds.”

PeCAN aims to help people find out what they can do to decarbonise their homes and lifestyles and protect nature.

PeCAN chair Greg Ford said: “We hope to make it easier for residents to respond to the climate change and nature crises.

“If each household took one measure a year, with council and government support, our whole community would be aligned with Paris targets by the end of the decade.”

The group is offering a whole-home retrofit assessment that will provide a tailor-made plan to make their home warmer, greener and cheaper to run. For details visit the website www.petersfieldcan.org
