TWO LONG-SERVING councillors have expressed concerns over plans to move the Town Visitor Centre (TVC) from Petersfield Library to the Town Hall.

The TVC has been earmarked for the left wing of the building by its operators, Petersfield Town Council, with Foster Wilson Architects incorporating the facility in its draft proposals for the Town and Festival Halls.

But while he acknowledged that the relocation might make financial sense, Councillor George Watkinson isn’t sure the move will benefit visitors judging on the feedback he’s received from residents.

“The people I have spoken to can see the advantage of moving the TVC to the Town Hall and it’s a benefit to us, but is it really a benefit to the people of Petersfield and visitors?” said the councillor to the Public Halls Committee on Monday.

“Most visitors come into town, stop off for coffee or lunch, see the tourist office and go in.”

“The town hall won’t be in their sight line,” added Councillor Mary Vincent.
